Our Youth Program focuses on developing confidence, strength, fitness, discipline and leadership skills.

Kids in these classes practice highly effective self-defence skills, taught in a playful manner so your child can learn to handle conflict through de-escalation and non-violent control techniques.

We also spend time being mindful and present as meditation is a huge asset to your child’s life – with noticeable benefits both in class and at home.

What to expect

We offer youth classes 6 days a week:

  • Monday 6:00pm
  • Tuesday 5:30pm
  • Wednesday 6:45pm
  • Thursday 5:30pm
  • Friday 6:45pm
  • Saturday 11:15am

Each class is an hour long and students need their own gi (we will provide a gi if it’s their first class, thereafter we ask our students to purchase their own). There’s no other equipment needed although we recommend that each student bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated during the workout.

We offer a free 45-minute introductory session before your first class to introduce students to our coaches and our gym. In this initial meeting, we’ll also answer any questions you have about training and get to know a little more about you and your training goals.

Classes kick off with an ice-breaker game to get students moving. This is followed by some warm-up exercises before we launch into our drills.

Drills consist of practicing techniques on – and with – a partner. Our experienced coaches pair up students based on their size, height, and ability. We take care to team up newcomers with more experienced students so that kids can learn from each other. Safety is, of course, our top priority. All activity in the gym, including our partner drills, is carefully supervised by our coaches with a student to coach ratio that ensures they’re getting dedicated, one-on-one feedback and training.

After running students through techniques and drills, we pause and meditate – giving them the opportunity to focus their mind as well as their muscles. We find that these ‘time outs’ are very valuable in clearing the mind so kids are in a calm state when they learn. Our students often take these skills outside the gym, developing their own meditation routines to help them cope with challenges at school or socially.

Following the short meditation, students get back on the mat to learn new techniques they can practice with rotating partners – teaching them teamwork, communication, confidence, and strength. We then end the class with an informal game so they can let off steam after all their hard work!
